8 (Small) Tips to Make it a Big New Year

Share

Together, we founded LABUR 10 years ago. Well, it’s almost been 10 years. Officially, we started in the summer of 2008, which is why 2018 is an especially special year for us; a milestone we’ve been looking forward to hitting since we started a decade ago.

Our beginnings included a small home office, but we had big plans.

Fast forward to today and we are proud to say we are a multi-million-dollar firm working with award-winning clients and top talent – truly the best of the best.

But one thing has never changed, and that is our dedication to continuous improvement. Sure, even our friendship has changed (for the better) over the years, and we’ve moved offices and grown out of equipment and processes, but nothing has deterred our drive and determination to be better tomorrow than we are today. This, and a few other tips and values have kept us honest and successful, allowing us to be proud of what we have built.

As we look to flip the calendar to what will undoubtedly be our biggest and best year yet, we are happy to impart some of our hard-learned lessons and words of wisdom that continue to inspire us.

8 (Small) Tips to Make it a Big 2018

1. Don’t wait until the end of the year to say thank you.
Always show your gratitude. You don’t need the holidays to do that.

2. ‘Do your job.’
If you’re working hard, others around you will work hard, too. And if they don’t, those aren’t the people to do work with.

3. Take ownership.
We’ve written about this before, but extreme ownership applies to everyone, all the time, no matter where you are or what you do. Own your decisions, own your actions and own the direction your life takes.

4. Be a person of integrity.
Everything comes full circle. If you are truthful and do what is right instead of what is easy you will always feel good about what you are doing and have done – and that is something nobody can take from you.

5. Always be learning.
Don’t let yourself become complacent. Stretch yourself and never get comfortable.

6. Understand that your words carry weight.
Be mindful of your attitude, your actions and your influence.

7. “Rent is due every day.”
Show up. Work hard. Repeat. You’re never “there.” Keep striving for more.

8. Surround yourself with the right people.
First and foremost, we are the relationships we have. In business and in our personal lives, take pride in the people you associate with and treat them well. This will take you the farthest – not to mention keep you happy and sane during the toughest of times.

What words do you live by that have made you successful and that you will be taking with you into the New Year?
